Much Ado About pH
Beauty snobs...you hear about pH balance all the time, but what does it mean and why should you care? Right? Well... without getting too technical on you, pH, which stands for potential of hydrogen, measures the acid or alkaline levels of a solution. Why is this important? Its the difference between soft and silky hair and "omg does she have any friends" hair....
The pH scale ranges from 0-14:
Acid 0-6.9 (coffee, lemon juice)
Neutral 7 (pure water)
Alkaline 7.1-14 (toothpaste, baking soda, chemical relaxers)
Healthy, normal hair ranges from 4.5 to 5.5. When hair becomes too alkaline (i.e. after a relaxer), the hair cuticles are lifted and can leave the hair looking damaged and dull. Some things that can cause this are thermal styling, coloring, perming, and bleaching. The solution? Find a low pH product (around 3.0-3.5) to put your tresses back in balance. The lower pH will make your cuticles lie flat, protecting your cortex. Your shiny, smooth hair will thank you. SoVAiN Hair Dew Leave in Conditioner is formulated to maintain ideal pH levels for your hair. It helps flatten cuticles, reduce frizz, and restore shine and body to your hair. Check it out!
