Knots and Tangles and Breakage, Oh My!
If you are like a lot
of women with naturally curly hair, you have suffered through a
detangling session nightmare at least once in your life. The best way to
avoid a lot of hurt feelings, hair on the ground (*cue dance*), and
tears is to detangle your hair in sections. I like to finger part my
hair into four sections and then, under running water and with a
head coated (and I mean...COATED) in conditioner, gently start from
the ends and work my way up to the crown of my head with a wide-tooth
shower comb. I then comb my hair back, rinse out the conditioner, and
voila. Detangled hair!
When shopping for conditioners and other products that work to detangle hair, look for these two great ingredients: guar gum & marshmallow root.
Guar gum is a wonderful emulsifier that gives slip to hair products as well as aids in detangling hair. I have used guar gum on its own and it provides a water penetrable "seal" on my hair that cuts my detangling time in half.
Marshmallow root is a popular ingredient in many hair conditioners for its amazing slippery texture for easy detangling as well as softening the hair. It is high in plant protein that promotes healthy hair growth and shine while also soothing dry scalp and skin inflammation.
VAiN Deep Moisturizing Conditioner contains BOTH ingredients as well as many others to provide optimal slip, shine, and tear free detangling. Happy hair growing! Stay VAiN! :)
